AC induction motors are most widely used in many industrial applications and contain a stator coil that is typically made of copper wire core.

Copper is the most common material used for the stator core because of its electrical conductivity efficiency.

If you are a metal recycler you may want to take advantage of this opportunity and separate the copper winding by utilizing a scrap electric motor dismantling machine because this is where high levels of profitability can be found.

Bluedog Recycling Equipment offers 3 Machines for Scrap Electric Motor Recycling:  BMC-10BMC-20 Winding Puller,  BMC-20 Winding Cutter.

You can find scrap motors in many places. A motor manufacturer, Industrial equipment manufacturers, motor repair shop or Scrap metal yards,  many have many failed motors on hand waiting to be processed.   Keep in mind, there two primary methods to introduce to you for scraping copper from electric motors.

Method #1 – Recovery by Hand

1. Make sure the motor has not been used for at least one hour to avoid electric shock.

2. Take off Fan Cover, Fan and or Pulleys that are still attached to the motor. Cut off any the additional items which are still attached to the motor.

3.  Unfasten the screws on the steel case and then remove the front and reason faces of the motor.

4.  Use Large concrete saw with a steel cutting blade to remove the outside metal housing of the motor.

4.  Use a pair of Wire cutters or a saws-all to individually cut offside of the copper winding and then pry the winging out by using a screwdriver on the other end.

5.  Now yo get the copper stator core.  You can go further to recycle aluminum and steel in the motor.

However, salvaging motors in this way is labor-intensive. If you have rich resources for scrap motors,  you might consider a faster way to scrap the copper windings.   The good news is that there are machines for recycling the copper windings from the motor stator.

Bluedog Recycling Equipment of features the following 3 designs for Electric Motor Dismantling Machines:

All in one design – BMC-10   Electric Motor Dismantling Machine

Can process scrap electric motors ranging in diameter from 3″ to 10″
BMC-10 is a 4 Stage Scrap Electric Motor Recycling machine as follows:

1.  Case Cracking Stage
2.  Stator Cutting Stage
3.  Winding Exactor Stage
4.  Secondary Pull Arm Stage

Watch the video below to learn more about how the BMC-10 Electric Motor Dismantling Machine Operates.

The BMC-20 is designed to cut the windings on 1 side of the stator after the case of the motor has been removed.    This eliminates the need to cut the stator in half.   You are still required to remove the main casing of the motor using either a Case Cracking machine such as the BMC-10 or you can do this with a Heavy duty cut saw.  The BMC-20 will cut the windings of Motor Stators ranging from 3″ in diameter up to 20 inches in diameter.

BMC-20 – Winding Puller  – Scrap Electric Motor Dismantling Machine

It is recommended to use the BMC-20 Winding Cutter in conjunction with the BMC-20 Winding puller.   After the windings are cut from the motor stator the BMC-20 is designed to pull the copper windings.  This system is uniques as it does not require to cut the stator in half.  However – Motor housing removal is still required.  The BMC-20 Can remove windings on motors ranging from 3 inches to 20 inches in diameter.

Method #2 – Using an Electric Motor Dismantling Machine to scrap electric motors:

The electric motor recycling machine consists of 3 machines.

The BMC-10 – All in one Electric Motor Recycling Machine has various stages for completely processing scrap electric motors.   Go to our BMC-10 product page to learn more.

The other is BMC-20 Copper Winding Cutting Machine and BMC-20 Copper winding pulling machine.  The cutting machine cuts one end of the copper winding while pulling the machine pulls the winding out.

These motor recycling machines are highly efficient and only consumes a small amount of power.  You can dismantle the electric motor stators ranging in diameter from 3 inches to 20 inches in diameter.

The copper windings are not bare but generally coated in shellac which protects the wire from shorting itself out.  You can learn more about the different grades of scrap copper by checking out our article here:

Note: Scrap Electric Motor Windings are typically  #2 scrap copper grade.

Lastly, the average AC motor containers 10 to 15 %  copper windings.  If you are a motor recycler, a manufacturer or scrap buyer you should consider buying an electric motor stator recycling machine.  This will save you time and money and help your business profit.
